Standard Sizing

Although standard-sized windows are helpful and convenient (since they are often readily available), they are not ideal for all homes.

Room Size

For west-facing windows, their size should not be more than 10% of the total floor area.

If they will be placed in the north-facing part of your home, the windows can bring in more heat — which is not necessarily a bad thing since north-facing windows can help keep your home warm in the winter. If you are keen on taking advantage of this, you might want to go with larger windows. But take note that large north-facing windows can make the room extra warm during summer. To prevent this negative effect, you can add eaves and awnings for protection.
