What Is GAF Advanced Protection® Technology?

As a GAF factory-certified roofing installation contractor, Advanced Roofing offers the full range of GAF’s roofing products, such as the best-selling GAF Timberline® shingles. These industry-leading shingles are designed with GAF Advanced Protection® Technology and now, we take a closer look at how this technology helps make products that protect your home.

Endurance Tests

GAF products are subjected to over 4,000 quality checks before they get shipped out to certified roofing contractors. Timberline shingles, as well as other GAF products designed under Advanced Protection Technology, undergo several endurance tests before they go into production. GAF uses two standard wind resistance tests designed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM): ASTM D3161, Class F, and ASTM D7158, Class H. These tests subject the shingles to simulations of 110 mph winds (Category 3 Hurricane) and 150 mph (Category 4 hurricane).

Another set of tests, collectively known as AC438, are designed to evaluate the asphalt shingles’ long-term performance. The tests focus on three critical areas: long-term exposure to the sun, long-term exposure to temperature extremes and extended exposure to wind-driven rain. All GAF shingles with Advanced Protection Technology have passed these tests before getting mass-produced. Resistance to damage from the elements can help keep the emergency roof repair cost down where it counts.

Giving You Peace of Mind

When it comes down to it, you want a roof that will give you peace of mind, regardless of the weather. When installed as part of the GAF Lifetime Roofing System, GAF Timberline shingles enhance a carefully designed roofing system, engineered to withstand extreme outdoor conditions.

Every component contributes to the roof’s overall performance. The starter strip shingles feature reinforcing adhesives that seal the roof edges, while the ridge caps feature a ventilation system that effectively purges unwanted heat and moisture from the attic. When installed by a GAF-certified contractor like us, you also become eligible for GAF’s superior warranty coverage that includes both materials and workmanship.
